Prayer for Finding a Wife

(Adapted from Rabbi Mordechi Dolinksy's book, "Don't Judge a Book by Its Cover")

Translation of the Prayer composed by the Holy Shelah, with an addition from the author of the Chupas Chasanim ("The Groom's Bridal Canopy")

May it be Your will, Hashem, my God and the God of my forefathers, that You find for me in Your great mercy and the greatness of Your kindness, my true and befitting marriage partner at the right time. For all of my needs and my capacity for improvement, the right partner worthy of having children, born from the seed of righteous and truthful men who have fear of sin, just like you found the true partner for Adam Ha-Rishon, for Avraham, Yitzchak, Yaakov, and Moshe, each one his true partner at the right moment and time. And please let the woman that you choose for me be a good woman, one with pleasantness of action and appealing appearance, let her be a doer of good deeds, a graceful woman, an intelligent wife with fear of Heaven; a pursuer of justice and a benefactor of kindnesses. May she not have even a little insufficiency or physical defect, or imperfection, and not be an angry or aggressive woman. May she just be modest with a humble spirit, healthy, and strong. And please don't allow any interference from ruthless individuals or enemies whose intentions and manipulations would aspire to prevent me from meeting my marriage partner. And so, please make real for me the words of our Sages who said that "He who finds a wife, finds good" and also, as it says, "The wicked company should not rest with the destiny of the righteous ones." And also what the Psalmist said that "Your wife will be like a fruitful vine in the inner chambers of your home and your children will be like olive shoots surrounding your table." For it is You, God, Who returns individuals to their true homes and brings those repressed to their true capability.

May the words of my mouth and the thoughts of my heart find favor before You, Hashem, my Rock and my Redeemer.
